NIH-funded study with UC Davis Health

A one-year randomized study enrolling an estimated 50 older adults with cognitive impairment. Participants either use HiDO with training and support or keep their usual medication routine. The registered outcomes are measures of cognition; UC Davis Health also describes tracking medication adherence and daily functioning. Results are not yet available.

Your HiDO Journey
From the first welcome call to everyday support, here is what members and their caregivers can expect.
  1. Step 1
    Welcome

After your health plan or care team refers you, we call to welcome you, review your medications and ask who you would like involved in your care, such as family or caregivers.

  2. Step 2
    Home setup

A HiDO technician visits your home to set up your device, help organize your medications and show you and your caregivers how everything works.

  3. Step 3
    Every day

HiDO reminds you when it is time, dispenses your dose and records a short video to confirm it, so your approved caregivers and care team know whether each dose was taken.

  4. Step 4
    When your prescription changes

Your pharmacy and care team update your medications and your HiDO schedule, then we confirm the changes with you.

  5. Step 5
    Ongoing support

Call HiDO support with device questions; health questions go to your care team. If doses are missed, your caregivers and care team can be notified so they can follow up.

HiDO helps you follow the plan your doctor prescribes; medication decisions always stay with your doctor. HiDO is not an emergency monitoring service.

Closing the Last Mile Between Pharmacy and Patient

The Ambient Care Loop™ links pharmacy dispensing with what actually happens in the home. Each action — dose taken, dose missed, or pattern change — feeds back into a unified loop, creating a verified record of medication use that enables early intervention and supports quality outcomes.

  • Confirm use — every dose is tracked and time-stamped
  • Identify risk — missed doses and behavior changes surface automatically
  • Strengthen payer alignment — adherence metrics support STAR performance
